About the Tier List Meme

The tier list format originated in fighting game communities, where players ranked characters by competitive viability. S-tier (from the Japanese "shu," meaning "exemplary") sits above A as the highest honor. The format exploded on YouTube and Reddit around 2018 when creators started applying it to everything from fast food chains to historical figures. Unlike the Alignment Chart (moral grid), tier lists are purely about ranking quality from best to worst.
How to Make a Tier List Meme
- Seven text fields are pre-placed on the tier list, one for each row from S through F
- Type the items you want to rank into each tier. S is the best of the best, F is irredeemable
- Separate multiple items in a single tier with commas or slashes to fit more rankings on one image
- White text on the dark background is set by default. Bump the font size up or down depending on how many items you are cramming into each row
- Download the finished tier list as a PNG, or copy it straight to clipboard for posting
