About the Troll Face Meme
The Troll Face: a crudely drawn, asymmetrical grin that became the defining image of early internet culture. Jagged, smug, unhinged. Drawn in MS Paint and posted to 4chan in 2008, it spread through every corner of the early web as the official mascot of doing something annoying on purpose. The face says "I know exactly what I did and I would do it again." Whether it ended with "Problem?" or "U mad?", the Troll Face owned every prank it was attached to.
Drawn by Carlos Ramirez (aka "Whynne") in Microsoft Paint in 2008 and posted to 4chan. The grinning, asymmetrical face became the universal symbol of internet trolling in the early rage comic era. "Problem?" or "U mad?" were the signature captions that ended a successful troll. Troll Face predates nearly every other meme on this list and helped define early internet humor culture. Shares the same 2008-era rage comic DNA as Rage Guy (pure frustration), but Troll Face is the aggressor, not the victim.
