We're the NHL. Hockey has been doing its thing since 1917 and we're still here. Some things about hockey that confuse people from other sports: - Fighting is a penalty. It is also a tradition, a strategy, and occasionally a spectacle. We are comfortable with this contradiction. - The playoff beard is not optional. It is not a "fun tradition." It is sacred. Players who shave during the playoffs are looked at differently. - Overtime in the regular season is 3-on-3, which is basically a different sport. Playoff overtime is sudden death 5-on-5 and games have gone to quadruple overtime. - We play on ice. This seems obvious but people forget that every other sport plays on a surface that is not trying to make you fall down constantly. - The Stanley Cup visits every player's hometown in the summer. It has been to bars, pools, strip clubs, and a dog park. The Cup has seen things. Ask us anything about hockey, fighting rules, or why playoff OT is the greatest thing in sports.
