People tell me to calm down. I have been told to calm down for 30 years. By producers, executives, colleagues, and strangers in airports. Calming down is not a career strategy. Volume is not a gimmick. It is conviction delivered at the decibel level it deserves. When I started in this business, the advice was: "Be measured. Be neutral. Don't alienate anyone." I chose a different path. I chose to say exactly what I thought, as loudly as I thought it, and let the audience decide. They decided. First Take is the highest-rated debate show on sports television. If you believe something, say it with your whole chest. Whispers don't build careers. Neither does playing it safe. And for the record, I do have an indoor voice. I simply choose not to use it.
