BS
Bill Simmons
Founder & CEO at The Ringer | Podcaster | Author | Former ESPN/Grantland
6h·
I started Grantland at ESPN and watched it get shut down. Then I built The Ringer from scratch. Then Spotify acquired it. Through all of that, the lesson stayed the same: build around people who are genuinely obsessed with what they cover. Every great media company starts with someone who cares too much about a topic. The Ringer works because every person on staff would be writing or podcasting about their beat for free. You can't manufacture that.

About the Fake Bill Simmons LinkedIn Generator

Bill Simmons on LinkedIn would post about building The Ringer the way other people post about running marathons: with the self-awareness of someone who knows the humble-brag format inside and out but does it anyway because the story is genuinely good. 'I left ESPN when nobody thought I could build something bigger. Three years later, we sold to Spotify. Here's what I learned.' Except the 'here's what I learned' section would be 14 bullet points, half of which reference the Celtics.

LinkedIn Simmons occupies a unique lane because he actually has a legitimate media empire story to tell. He built Grantland, got fired from ESPN, built The Ringer, sold it to Spotify, and kept going. That resume translates to LinkedIn better than almost any sports personality. The catch is that he cannot resist turning career advice into sports analogies. 'Hiring is like the NBA Draft' would be the title of every other post.

Fake Bill Simmons LinkedIn Post Ideas

  • Simmons posting 'Agree?' under his own take about how media companies should operate more like NBA front offices
  • A thought-leadership post ranking the top 5 career decisions he's ever made, with leaving ESPN at #1 and drafting the right podcast format at #2
  • Simmons writing a congratulations post for a Ringer employee's promotion that somehow includes a comparison to the Celtics' player development pipeline

FAQ

Does Simmons's media career make his LinkedIn posts more credible than other sports personalities?
Yes, and that's what makes them funnier. Simmons actually built two media companies from scratch. He pioneered the sports podcast format. He got a $200 million deal from Spotify. These are real achievements that translate directly to LinkedIn content. The comedy is that even with all this legitimate business wisdom to share, he still can't go three paragraphs without comparing something to the NBA. His most insightful career post will end with a parenthetical about the '86 Celtics. Every single time.
